About Us
The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council created the concept for Hire L-A through a grant from the Bell Atlantic Foundation and help
from local community partners including Liberty Mutual, the Maine Department of Labor, and Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
The project evolved from a need for local businesses to find employees to fill job openings efficiently and effectively. The Growth Council
sought to create an easy-to-use and widely accessible electronic database to match job candidates with employers.
The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council is the central economic development agency serving Lewiston and Auburn, Maine. It is a
nonprofit public/private partnership that assists emerging and expanding businesses in the Cities of the Androscoggin. Historically the Growth
Council's efforts have played a positive role in the decisions of many companies to locate in the community. The Growth Council is focused on
fostering a business environment that enhances job opportunities and the local tax base.
The Growth Council works closely with companies that wish to expand or relocate to Lewiston-Auburn, providing
business site search assistance, commercial financing, and marketing. The Growth Council also acts as a liaison
with local, regional, and state development agencies, and serves as a clearinghouse of information on a wide
variety of business resources, such as technical assistance, education and training programs, incentive programs,
financing assistance, local statistical data, and networking opportunities.
In addition, the Growth Council promotes the Lewiston-Auburn community and its businesses through media
contacts, news articles, press releases, business advocacy, professional referrals, and special projects such as
the annual Androscoggin Business-to-Business Trade Show.
